Merton2

Denman’s Merton Living is a not-for-profit organisation that was originally formed at a public meeting in December 1974. Merton Court Hostel was opened in 1982 as a 14 bed hostel. It has since grown to 17 beds, with single rooms and ensuites. Merton Court is well known in the community for its homelike feel, with local staff creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

In 2001, we gained approval to provide five CACPS packages. Merton Home Care is now undergoing a period of growth now that packages are given to the consumer rather than the provider. This is an exciting time for Merton Living as this will complement and enable an even better service to the residents of Merton Village.

In 2002, six independent living units were built; the commencement of Merton Village. Located centrally in the township of Denman, the village is now located on two sites and by the end of 2017 will have a total of 46 units. The residents of Merton Village have created a wonderful, supportive community, where they look out for one another.

Merton Living is now one of the biggest, if not the biggest employer in Denman and the current (2016) Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce & Industry Business of the Year. With more land available adjacent to the Hostel, Merton Living is looking forward to expanding its services to provide restorative care in the future.

Touriandi

The need for an aged care facility in Bingara was first addressed at a community meeting in 1988, following on from this a voluntary Board was elected and this formed the first ‘Bingara Hostel Committee’. Touriandi Incorporated become a company in 2009 and today the Board has ten voluntary members from the community who ensure the Vision, Mission and Philosophy statements of Touriandi are met. Touriandi Lodge has two wings, the Jacaranda Wing which is the low level wing and the Willow Wing which is a specific secured area.

In the early days resident care needs were minimal and the clientele more independent, today Touriandi endorses the ‘ageing in place’ philosophy and provides the level of care required for each specific resident. Each resident has an individualised activity program to ensure their recreational and leisure are met in line with presenting needs.

All staff work together to achieve the homelike environment that we strive so hard to maintain for the residents and visitors alike.
